Week 1: Famous Last Words

So far I feel really great about this class. It took me a couple of days to get comfortable with the layout of the class and with the blogging, but I quickly got the hang of it! Looking back at this week, I am amazed that I have actually created a blog! I am really proud of myself for sticking with this course and getting as involved in it as I have. I would say my best writing for this class so far would be the "My Favorite Places" post, because it was my very first post and I was really excited to get to share a little bit about myself and my amazing journey this summer. I discovered that in order for my blog posts to be great, they must be authentic and representative of myself. When I am writing a post, I try to make them relatable and personable so that they are more enjoyable to the readers. Since this class opened a week early, I was able to get far ahead and work on the assignments before classes had actually begun. This was really nice because I was able to focus all of my attention on this class and these assignments. Now that school has officially begun, I'm already finding it more difficult to stay ahead with all of my other classes. I am in a couple of really tough classes this semester that require a huge chunk of time, but I definitely think it is manageable since this schedule is so flexible. Something really cool that I heard of this passed week was that the University of Oklahoma's admissions office planned to deliver the first acceptance letter for this next year in a huge way. They loaded up all of the football players, cheerleaders, the band, pom girls, ruffnecks, the schooner, and as many students as they could fit onto 6 charter buses, and personally delivered the acceptance letter. I thought this was just such a cool thing for our university to do and it really represents our pride and "family-like" campus. I just thought this was so cool and had to share! Overall, this has been an amazing first week of the semester and I cannot wait for the many more to come!

  1. Hi Alyssa. I'm glad that you are enjoying this class. I have to admit that it is by far my favorite class this semester. I enjoyed the Favorite Places blog as well, even though it really made me want to go travel somewhere and forget about school for a while. I hadn't heard that OU was doing that with the acceptance letter. It is actually really cool how involved the school gets with the community and with bringing people in. I hope that you have a great semester!

  2. Alyssa, I think that my first reactions to this course was the same as you at this point. I loved that it opened a week earlier and we got the chance to work ahead. I don't think I kept up this work ethic though as the semester progressed but I think this class is very manageable especially when you have more difficult classes to worry about like you! I really like how you have remained personal in your posts that shows more of your character and very approachable to read! Hope the rest of your semester has gone great since this post :)

  3. Hey Alyssa! Love the post! I totally agree with you on the fact that this class really frees up some time in the week for more time consuming classes. The freedom this class allows is just awesome. I hadn’t heard about the admission office’s plan to deliver acceptance letters. That is so cool that they’re going to use the football players and pride. Keep up the awesome posts.

  4. Alyssa! I enjoyed reading your post and getting to know a little bit about yourself at a more personal level! I am also super excited about this class, I can't believe it's been 8 weeks already and I have enjoyed this class everyday! We do such fun things in this class that I don't feel like its work! I am glad I took this class. Good luck!

  5. I’m really glad you like this class! I really love the layout of this online class. I took Laura’s myth and folklore class and I loved everything about it, so I decided this would be a good class to take. And wow, really? A hand delivered acceptance letter? That sounds so crazy! I wonder who the lucky person was! I would swoon if OU had done that to me.

  6. Hello Alyssa! I'm glad that you like this class as well. I prefer online classes most of the time because I feel like I can learn the material on my own without going to class. I like that this class lets us work ahead. I also like the flexibility of this class, it definitely helps when the rest of your classes get down to the wire.

  7. Hi Alyssa, I have to agree with you on the work load of the class. There is always something due on a week day and it was hard to keep up for the first few weeks, but after that I got the hang of it. Like you I also thought it was cool for our school to go out make an incoming freshman’s day by giving a special acceptance letter.

  8. Hey Alyssa! I had the exact same experience when I first started this class. It also took me some time to get used to blogging and the whole layout of class! I was pretty confused the first week, but soon got the hang of it. It was easy to stay ahead at first but now I simply find myself doing the assignments from day to day. Hope you're still doing well!
